Boat, Beach, and More

So someone in Russia and someone in Germany has looked at my blog...huh? I guess my words and story are so meaningful that they can reach people continents away. So in the past three days there have been three rather large events that I will tell you about. The boat trip, the tour de shaun, and the beach day.
The boat trip was the night before last, thursday, and is pretty self explanatory. A little over fifty of the members of fischer college got on a boat and spent four hours riding up and down the Derwent River. It was quite fun in an almost unexplainable way. The atmosphere, though physically cold, was quite happy and light. Everyone was out there to enjoy themselves and there was no reason anyone shouldn't. except it was kinda cold. some of the locals explained the history and significance of some of the bridges we went by, pointed out some landmarks. of course there was also drinking on the boat, but no one was overdoing it. We did run into the problem of limited bathrooms, so towards the end of the night some people resorted to using the side of the boat. the best locations for this were right near the door and sometimes people came out of the door at just the wrong time. this often resulted in cheering and general ridicule. all in all a fun night. then there's a tradition of jumping into the water after we get off the boat. we did this many times. eventually the cops came and asked us to (demand that we) stop. some people did not jump in and i think there is punishment coming, they certainly deserve it. that's about it for the boat trip. we then headed to dylans room where we hung out for a while. i was one of the last people there which turned into me and hayley talking about running and swimming while chopper was passed out in dylan's bed. it would have been funny for an outside viewer
The Tour de Shaun. We shall call this freshie initiation because that's what it was. we were divided into groups of four and the members of each group were assigned roles. dog (Heather) and dog's master (Kim). Newlyweds (Myself and Tom) male and female (Tom and Me respectively). this involved me wearing a little girl's tiara and clip on earrings. i also had to hold hands with tom the entire day. it got a little bit tiresome. we had to go to just about every pub type place in hobart and at each there were lifers waiting for us. they would give us tasks and challenges. the first was easy and just hold a sign and get our picture taken with it. some of the others were harder. we had to stand on an island in the street and play guitar/sing. we had to fetch starfish and separately go swimming. dylan actually had the most brilliant one. they had us through coins in the fountain at salamanca to wish fischer luck in they're future sporting events. then after we did that he said "what are you doing?! you're uni students and need all the money you can get!" they then kept the money we (I) fetched. Eventually we ended up on Parliament Lawns where Schmidty had us wait and hang out. they told us the remnants of a bag of goon had to be finished (somehow i did that too), then made us get scratch tickets. i won three dollars. Schmidty kept it. they ran out of things to drink there so caleb, millsy, and I walked up to the bottle store to get stuff for ourselves. caleb is 17 so he sent millsy in to get stuff, but he forgot the pin so i just got it all. we brought 2 24 packs it down thinking, have a few then save the rest for our room. nope, all gone before we left the lawns. so now the entire college can't really charge for alcohol for a while, which is nice. we then headed over to Zankee's. the most memorable part of that was that I played root and won, but they're rules were off. it was very upsetting, but i prevailed nonetheless. even with weak 6 cup shit. after that walk back to fischer with a stop at mcdonalds, literally the first thing i ate all day. then hung out with a few guys outside fischer for a little bit then bed. so i was assigned the female partner role, as were millsy and caleb. i think that they decided who was the woman maybe a little arbitrarily, but chose their favorites. i tell myself that anyway. i might be wrong depending on who was in the other groups. at each pub we had to ask the lifers questions, some were hilarious, involving penis puppertry and other questions from the lifers' illustrious pasts.
Today was the beach trip. it took some effort getting out of bed, but in retrospect completely worth it. it was gorgeous out. i will probably pay for not using sun tan lotion though...whatever. i was the first one in the water and it was just a fun day. i tried to play cricket for the first time, showed them that americans invented frisbee (kinda, i'm only decent) and then there was a ton of ball tossing. we found a rock pretty deep to stand on so a group of people would chuck balls at people towards the shore and they did the same to us. i was out on the rock, the problem was i was the only freshie on the rock and some of the balls would get really far away. somehow i was forced to fetch them all. at least i got a workout. there was also a barbeque, but aparently they don't believe in buns so we used bread for hot dogs and burgers...really fun. tonight is the last event, OP shop party, so after that its all classes all the time
