Bonorong Zoo

I went to the ZOO!!! Now most people over the age of six wouldn't have been quite as excited about this as I am, but that's not my fault. So when I say zoo I don't mean zoo like the bronx zoo or some lesser zoo (any), it was more of a wildlife park like the one we went to up at mole creek. It was still awesome. It was threatening to rain for most of the trip, but we were pretty lucky. We heard stories about an elitist frogmouth who wouldn't sit with the others and didn't know to be scared of birds of prey because he was hand raised. Another event that should be mentioned if the harrassment of Bob the Galah.
This is Bob
It was said he could talk, so Amy and Emily just stood on either side of him harassing him and trying to get him to talk, succeeding in scaring him more than anything else.
They each took a side and harassed him
Finally the cockatoo sharing his cage yelled at full volume to scare us away. It was painful. After we did all the learning stuff we were allowed to wander around and plan how we were going to smuggle animals out. We ended by feeding kangaroos. One mother actually had a joey in a pouch, it was amazingly cute, not sure I'll ever get over it. We were not allowed to steal it.
Joey, all baby kangaroos are named Joey. Not too creative on the kangaroos part
Got back to college and then played squash with Schmidty. It started really well, I was just kicking his ass, 11-4. Then it got closer 11-7. Then it got terrifyingly close 12-10. He started using my own tricks against me, it was a little upsetting. At that point I suggested that we call it a day so the trend wouldn't continue. It was fun to get a some exercise in though.

Kangaroos and Cockatoos

Another day started with a morning run. Those of you who read the last post will have noticed a picture at the end. The beach in that picture is where I ran. It was quite nice and people actually greeted me as I ran. The problem was the last mile was uphill. Life is hard. After waiting for my father to realize nine o'clock is not a guideline and that it's rude to make people wait, we went out to seize the day. Mission one: find a glossy black cockatoo. It took a lot of wandering and sightings of wallabies to find it. We came upon a female perched in a tree hollow, aka guarding a nest. Our guide's reaction: oh shit. no we didn't get dive bombed or anything, but it should have been marked off and unaccessable...but at least we got to see it. Second Mission: find the hooded plover. Mission successful, we also found a friendly pelican.
It was fishing in the rock pool. It looked ridiculous

Next mission: lunch at zoo. mission successful, there was an area to pet koala's which of course we did, even mom who is probably allergic. We also saw a wild koala, though any word that implies action or activity should not be associated with those sloth like creatures.. Next mission: seal bay. the thing is there were no seals, just sea lions. it was fun to watch them. they are lazy/smart creatures, so rather than swimming to sure, they body surf in. Also it's mating season so all the bulls are giant and aggressive and we got to see a bunch of fights, which where scary because there were adorable pups next to these 700 pound miniature whales who were at high risk of crushing them. We then headed to duck pond, and on the way saw a walking pinecone (echidna (spiny anteater that lays eggs) cross the road. I threatened my father to make sure he didn't ask, "why did the echidna cross the road?" We then went to duck lagoon. we saw ducks. and egrets, and spoonbills, and greebs, and herons, and swans. it got comical by the ned how many birds were at this little pond. so good birding day.
congratulations if you made it this far into the post without giving up because of birds. fun fact: The galah is a cockatoo worth knowing about. it gets bored so it hangs upside down on wires and flaps it wings a bit. to call someone a galah in Australia is to call them a fool
Does Look like fun though
i'm trying to think of anything else worth sharing. the place we're staying is more a bed and breakfast than a hotel and though i feel like i should be at least 50 to be here, it's actually quite pleasant. the food is great, the view is incredible and i don't need to do anything. unfortunately this paradise only lasts another day or so, but i'll enjoy it while it lasts
btw, congrats bowdoin men dmr, you guys are insane
